The first synthetic fiber was nylon-introduced in 1939 by dupont: synthetic fibers-chemically synthesized fibers, also called noncellulosic manufactured fibers, and chemical fibers. Mechanical properties: abrasion resistance is good to excellent, good to excellent tenacity, high pilling propensity, excellent resilience, better elastic recovery. Most common properties: poor absorbency, oleophilic-like oil, hate water, good chemical resistance, heat sensitive, resistant to mildew, bacteria, moths, carpet beettles, and silver fish, hydrophobic-affects comfort aspect. General care: machine laundering and line or machine drying are normal care procedures, melted fibers, undesirable glazing, and holes may result from excessive heat, follow all care labels, good for many washes. Pla-polylactic acid- synthetic fiber that is not a petrochemical source. Produced from cornstarch: good strength, low moisture. Physical properties: pilling is a major problem. Mechanical properties: low to moderate tenacity, poor abrasion resistance, similar to wool and cotton in terms of durability. Chemical properties: poor absorbency, good wicking, sensitive to heat.
