Document Summary

Set up to make errors if rely on own intuition. Cant rely on common sense, anecdotal evidence. Assume after the fact that it should have been known: ex: politics- assumed that hillary would be nominee, not actual result. Now they rattle off reasons why of course she couldn"t have won. Anecdotal evidence: cant assume one persons experience applies to everyone, cant assume that anecdote is accurate. Ex: advice about teachers- everyone has diff opinions about teachers, what they think is boring you might like. Or maybe they failed the class so they blame instructor to make themselves look good. Memories can be faulty (estimate time lecturing etc. may be inaccurate bc took class so long ago) Steps of scientific method: prediction: formulate hypothesis. Hypothethis: a tentative statement about the relationship btwn 2 variables. Variables: any measure conditions, events, characteristics, or behaviors that are controlled or observed in a study. Theory: a system of interrelated ideas used to explain observations.
