HRIM 321 – Case Study Analysis # 1 – Family Celebration at
your East Hampton Home
1. In your opinion, based upon your reading: what are the 3 most uniquely
important aspects of providing meals in this case study?
Some valuable considerations to abide by when serving guests are, first, to keep
in mind that the larger the party, the less people eat, secondly, to save money,
order elements that are cheap such as potatoes, bread and salad, and lastly to
acquire supplies from a company that offers a return dirty service to save a
great deal of time.
2. Planning, Preparation or Management: List these in order of importance
with regards to the case study.
In my opinion, an event first needs to be thoroughly planned to establish the
details of what to prepare for, next, without preparation, an event has little room
for success, therefore one must do as much preparation as possible ahead of
time, lastly, good management is required to make sure the actual event runs
smoothly.
3. You think you will have excess food after the party; per the CS what is the
maximum amount of time food can be left out before it has to be thrown
away?
According to the case study, the maximum amount of time food can be left out
before it has to be thrown away is one and a half hours.
4. You have decided to rent the plates, stemware, flatware, etc. for your party,
your CS suggests renting such items with a specific type of service
included – What is the service they recommend?
According to the case study, hostesses should rent plates, stemware, flatware,
etc. from a company that provides a return dirty service to save time.
5. One hour after all the guests have arrived your neighbor has called the
cops on you. Unbeknownst to you, many of your guests have used his

front lawn as a parking lot. He is not happy and the cops are on the way.
What are you going to do when they get to your front door.
To begin, I would apologize to the cops and my neighbor and assure them that I
will handle the situation. Next I would address my guests that their cars need to
be moved to the designated area that was originally planned. I would offer that
my catering service could move their cars if desired to prevent drinking and
driving. I would handle the situation in a calm, quick and effective manner.
