customer and behind the scenes
Operations Process (Transformation Process)
Input
o Goes through transformation process
Becomes Output
o Output provides value
o Goal: satisfying customers
o Goal: profit
If profit is not generated then there is no point
Value Add: difference of value of inputs and outputs
o The role of operations is to add value
Transformation processes change all the time based on consumer needs, change in
environment, etc.
o Want to improve the process decrease costs, improve efficiencies, etc.
o Also want to continually meet/exceed customer needs
o Technology can change the transformation process
Packaging, stocking, inventory, etc. can be changed by technology
It can speed up the time that it takes to go through the transformation
process
