Document Summary

Be aware that section 6. 2 6. 6 have been covered in previous chapters (although they are still relevant here) Why do atoms form bonds: because they want to fill the whole outer shell with electrons whether or not they lose electrons or gain electrons with other atoms. When metal gets flattened, the atoms becomes compressed; metals also conduct electricity because the atoms allow for conductivity. Is it endothermic or exothermic: lattice energy is exothermic; lattice energy is the total energy released when putting together two ions. Why: ionization energy is endothermic because it takes in energy in order to release an electron/give away an electron. Is it exothermic or endothermic: electron affinity is exothermic because it releases energy in order to gain an electron. What factors make the formation of ionic bonds energetically favorable overall: ionic bonds are very strong and stable because of the equal share of valence electrons and electrons between them.
