During this time the 15th century there was technological advances in boats, there were many types as well that made travel a bit more easier than before, as well as the development of compasses. There was a development of cartography, which is basically the productions of maps, this would allow for a sense of how the earth lay out was. They were a bit wrong bc they assumed the tropics were uninhabitable, and the earth was round but surrounded by water.
