GEOG 102 Midterm: Tropical Climatology Midterm: Chapter 2
Document Summary
Chapter 2: understanding the laws of weather and climate. Traditional climatology: study of describing the mean state of the atmosphere at a location through time and/or over space. Their interactive nature produces the weather experienced at any point in time or space. Climate of a location is the mean weather conditions experienced. Parcel of air: we make a parcel by gathering together a usually unspecified amount of air and pretend the air is surrounded by an invisible boundary that insulates the parcel air from its surrounding environment. Describes the state or condition of a parcel of air in terms of: Boyle"s law: if the temperature of a parcel of air is held constant (it does not change), then an increase in the volume of the air parcel will result in a decrease of the pressure. Word equation form: for a constant temperature, pressure is inversely proportional (opposite to volume).
