For a while, different universities all built their own computer, each with their own name- iliac, celiac, etc. The hard part was designing hardware and whatnot, writing programs is soft clerical stuff and women were all programmers. Original 6 eniac programmers: kathleen mcnulty, frances bilas, People realized writing programs was harder than people thought. For one month, it was the fastest computer in the world (out of like 12).
