Manifest destiny : this was the idea that god had sent the anglo-saxon u. s. to conquer the west. this was a national idea supported by religion. Pio pico : he was the last governor of california before it was conquered by the united. 1842-1846 texas claimed independence from mexico however. Mexico still saw it as mexican territory. there was a dispute between which river, nueces and rio grande, was the agreed to be the bordering river. Mexican american or chicano. in a broad sense, this term is still used today to demonstrate that not all chicanos came to america illegally.
