Document Summary

Midterm study guide: suppose i, as a scientist, decided to conduct a research experiment regarding the correlation, if any, between handedness and life span. My hypothesis (proposed statement predicting the causal relationship between two or more variables) would be as follows: if individuals are left-handed, they are more likely to die earlier than right-handed individuals. This particular experiment is not based off a theory, but a theory proposes the same question as a hypothesis, but in a more abstract perspective, covering a wider range of variables. The assumption (obvious controlled variable that is unnecessary to measure) in this experiment is that handedness does not change over time, and that people are not lying about their respective handedness. The data i collect would be the measured lifespans in relation to handedness. Each postulate must hold in order for natural selection to occur because without variation in tness, there would be no competition.
