Unemployment rate= number of unemployed x 100 (employed + unemployed) The unemployment tells us how the national economy is as a whole: but doesn"t tell us who is affected, varies greatly because of educational status, gender, age, and race. Discouraged workers- have looked for work in past year but give up because of labor force. Underemployed- workers who are in job not suited to their skill level.
