Document Summary

In today"s society, racial identity is brought up everyday and it still separates people. It alludes to an individual who considers him/herself to be a part of one racial assembly. Race is a social construct because if it was biological, classifications would remain constant across boundaries. However, one who may be categorized as black in the united states might be considered white in brazil or colored in south africa. How one sees their identity can shift with experience and time. It can cause us to have a mixture of feelings including a sense of alienation or segregation based on the way others treat us. I never paid much attention to my south indian race. If someone asked me to describe my appearance i would have said dark brown hair/eyes and average stature. One of the last things i would have noted was the color of my skin.
