Conquest and colonization as a story conquest/ colonization is a story that the colonizers tell to themselves. Myth 1: spanish like to tell themselves that the incas and andeans thought that the spanish were gods. Spanish conquerors were peasants, the incas were nobility. Myth 2: the spanish had superior weapons and technology. Cannons don"t work on mountains, dogs, etc. Myth 3: the incas did not resist. Restall argues that the inca culture as a whole was rebellion. Less about physical resistance and more about an intellectual/ cultural resistance. Spanish adopted it to exploit the people. We are the other; indigenous elites used inca iconography to secure their rule as agents of colonization under colonial rule.
