Components of pathway in body: route of administration, absorption, distribution to a target, with which it interacts to yield some effect, metabolism, excretion and elimination, in drug testing, excretion is what is tested. At this point, drug is already metabolized, so we"re looking for some metabolic product of the drug interaction. Only difference is that heroine is more lipophilic than morphine and thus can move across membrane more quickly. It"s then converted to morphine: a drug is either, lipophilic (happy comfortable in lipid environment, hydrophilic (can"t cross membrane unless specific transporter is present, degree to which drugs is lipophilic or hydrophilic is taking oil/h20 partition coefficient. If drug likes fat it will be in the oil portion. If drug likes water it will be in water portion.
