Reliability establishment: are things coded consistently, temporal changes, pros. Labor and cost intensive: nonreactive measurement. Some are reactive, such as social science archives. Pros: have access to larger unit of analysis, better than individual, good at studying/understanding the past, may be the only way to study the past, ability to understand social change.
