Ensayo
• Fiestas y celebraciones – be able to write about the following:
o Describe una fiesta o celebración que asististe recientemente (usa el pretérito)
o ¿Hay ciertas celebraciones importantes en tu comunidad o tu país? ¿Cuáles son?
• Be able to use 5 irregular verbs when talking about a fiesta in the past tense
o You will have to use all sorts of verbs in the preterite to talk about a fiesta, but at least 5
out of the total must be irregular (ex: poner, poder, traer, ir, ser, etc. etc.)
• Be able to make comparisons between Día de los Muertos y la Semana Santa
o ¿Dónde se celebran?
o ¿Qué celebran o conmemoran?
o ¿Cuántos días duran las celebraciones?
o ¿Los celebramos aquí en los EEUU?
How to write a successful essay:
• Make sure to write about all the elements that are asked for!
• Grammar is important!
o Verb conjugations are considered major errors when I grade your exams
o Adjective or number agreement is considered a minor error
o Try to leave yourself 5 mins at the end of the exam to re-read your essay and spot check
for obvious errors
• Sentence structure!
o Complex sentences are better than simple sentences
▪ Simple: Fui a la fiesta de cumpleaños de mi amiga. Traje cerveza conmigo. Bailé
con mis amigos.
▪ Complex: El sábado pasado, fui a la casa de mi amiga para celebrar su
cumpleaños. Me divertí mucho porque hubo un DJ y bailé con mis amigos toda
la noche hasta la una de la mañana…
