Document Summary
Future directions project: theemeshni govender and karly grace vaughn. Today we are going to be talking about a longitudinal study that looks at the effects of maternal emotional dysregulation and paternal involvement on child behavioral problems. We wanted to look at four continuous variables (maternal emotion dysregulation, paternal involvement, child gender and socioeconomic status) and its effect on child behavior problems. Additionally, we wanted to see which variables interact with one another to affect child behavior problems. Previous research that has looked at maternal emotion regulation found that mothers who are able to regulate their emotions having children with more stable emotions and that maternal impulsivity is correlated to child impulsivity. Research has shown that parenting styles are related to child emotional and behavioral regulation and that dismissing parenting styles are correlated with child emotion dysregulation. Additionally, maternal lack of attention towards their child was correlated with child behavior problems.
