The burglars get into the building but security starts searching the building and catches
the men bugging the building

Post starts asking around about why the burglars have their private counselor
They believe that 5 men have connections with the CIA, even though only one admitted
to working for the CIA and one denied it
The name Howard Hunt comes up in the address books of two of the burglars, so
Woodward calls him and then man refuses to say anything
Howard is confirmed to have also worked with the CIA and Charles Colson, the
President’s Special Council
Carl Bernstein starts taking over Woodward’s article and meets with the secretary of
Hunt’s assistant who says that Hunt was hired to investigate Senator Ted Kennedy
Bernstein calls the librarian and asks if Hunt checked out any books on Kennedy, she
says he did a lot then 5 seconds later denies ever knowing Hunt
Woodward calls the communication office of the white house and asks why the librarian
changed her mind, but the guy says he has to check on it and hangs up
Communicative man calls Woodward back saying the librarian said she never even talked
to Bernstein
They head to the Library of Congress to find paper proof that Hunt checked out any
books on Kennedy
The Library of Congress says that any book that the White House checks out is
confidential, so they go ask someone downstairs to let them in
They go through all of the cards but Hunt is completely missing from the stack so they
think he used an alias or they removed it
The editor of the newspaper says that there is not enough information to write a front-side
story
Someone leaves a secret message on Woodward’s doorstep, telling him to place a red
flag on his porch if he wants to meet and find out more
Woodward parks his car somewhere and then gets a taxi to make sure that he isn’t
followed to the meeting place
He meets the man in an abandoned parking garage and the man won’t give him new
information but will confirm information they already have
Bernstein gets a lead to look for Barker who was also arrested for the burglary and follow
the money trail
He meets with the Florida sheriff who says that the money ($25,000) apparently came
from Mexico, and that Kenneth Dahlberg’s name is on it
Woodward calls Dahlberg and finds out that Dahlberg raised that money for the
Committee to Reelect but instead went to Barker
