FSHD 347 Study Guide - Spring 2019, Comprehensive Final Exam Notes - Neuroscience, Memory, Magnetic Resonance Imaging
Document Summary
Lecture i: introduction: the brain"s operations can be linked upwards to psychology as well as downwards to biology. These are examples of inter-theoretic relations, i. e. relations between different theories. As neuroscience informs psychology, so too can it inform ethical theorizing: examples of key issues in neuroethics are neurotransmission and psychopharmacology, the neural bases of emotions, memory, and personality, the technology of brain imaging (e. g. fmris, mris, etc. ), the neuropsychology of responsible behavior, and questions about the neural bases of consciousness, especially in damaged or lesioned brains: in this course, we will examine several of these issues in detail. Like most moral issues, things come in degrees, very little is clear-cut or black-and-white, and context is very important. For example, most people consider the sale of diet books and regimens, personal trainers, and targeted exercise programs to be unproblematic. This debate parallels the debates over recreational drugs in many ways.
