If i was a policy maker in northern california i would want to make policy to make sure that my citizens to have the lowest level of perchlorate intake that was safe, which is about 1ppb. Although this was the first study that was done, it was made by an outside source that is not benefitting from the use and manufacturing of perchlorate. The study in 2005 was biased because specifically manufacturers and users conducted it; then the military also did a study, but perchlorate benefits them as well. I would implement a regulation that all water used for consumption must be filtered so that perchlorate levels are at 0. 00003 milligrams (or less) per kilogram of body weight. These studies, although may have been conducted properly, cannot and did not predict long term effects of consuming perchlorate, and the health of the citizens comes first.
