Gpns can link places and not just firms according to dicken. Organizational ecology- a mix of firms and parts of firms connected together through geographically extensive production networks and circuits. There are four interconnected sets of relationships that are important between firms: Intra-firm relationships: between parts of a corporate network, as each part strives to maintain/enhance its position through other parts of the organization. Inter-firm relationships: between firms belonging to separate, but overlapping networks as part of customer-supplier transactions and other inter-firm interactions (the most important channel at which local companies develop and design) Firm-place relationships- firms attempt to extract the max benefits from their communities while communities do the same thing to firms. Place-place relationships- each community attempts to capture and retain the investments and jobs of the component parts of gpns. The viewpoints about tncs are divided based on its impacts: Either to expand economies or exploit them.
