People gave patronage to sanchi by worshipping here. 2 stone gate and stone railings surrounding stupa 1 (torana) The toranas are gateways, but people can only walk around the stupa, not enter them. 3 the great departure scene, east torana architrave. It shows zadartha trying to leave his palace undetected and go on a spiritual journey, and it displays a natural sense of movement. There are parasols that point to a figure of royalty. Middle: demi-gods appear and carry zadartha"s horse so he can leave undetected. Right: zadartha leaves, and the groom and the horse head back to the palace sadly. Fig. 4 the great monkey jataka scene, relief sculpture, west torana architrave. The story starts on the lower-left corner, where the king is on his horse. The king orders the archer to kill the monkey king(buddha) and the monkeys.
