Anthropology- the study of contemporary and their cultures while considering variations and similarities across cultures. Intro to anthropology/ ethics and fieldwork (aids and accusation chapter 3) Armchair anthropologists- these researchers read reports on other cultures written by explorers, but have never made contact. Verandah anthropologists were hired by european colonial authorities to learn about the natives in the colony so they can govern them better (lived near, but not with natives) Anthropologists today use participant observation, which involves living and working with the people they are studying, including adapting to their customs such as language and food. Having anthropology as an employable skill can allow people to: Ethnography- the study of a group of people with shared characteristics in their natural settings. Participant fieldworkers should know that the participants should remain unharmed, have a clear reason for studying them, and share with the people the benefits of the research.
