Encoding specificity/context dependent memory: memories more easily retrieved if emotional cues at time of retrieval are similar to those present at time of memory storage. Mood dependent memory:current mood has to be congruent with mood at time of memory storage in order to ease recall of memory. Selective attention: first step to creating a memory trace. Sensory memory: lasts a second; pretty detailed; auditory/visual. Short term memory: lasts 20-30 seconds; limited capacity. Chunking: grouping familiar stimuli for storage as a singular unit. Working memory : ability to store and manipulate info; ability to multitask. Long term memory: relatively permanent; unlimited capacity. Episodic: what happened in your life (ex: first kiss) Flashbulb memories: detailed memories for traumatic events. Ex: people"s memories of what they were doing/what they saw on 9/11. Deep: make info meaningful, relate new material to material already known, imagery, telling a story, elaborating on new info.
