Scientific method- a way to answer questions using empirical research and data-based conclusions. A prediction that can be tested: test hypothesis. Scientific observation- a method of testing a hypothesis by unobtrusively watching and recording participants" behavior in a systematic and objective manner. Survey- a research method in which: what happens when a survey is taken, participants are randomly selected, acquiring valid survey data is not easy. Some people lie and some change their minds. Survey answers are influenced by wording and sequence of questions. Information is collected from a large number of people. Institutional review board (irb)- a group that exists within most educational and medical institutions whose purpose is to ensure that research follows established guidelines and remains ethical. Full-term pregnancies last 266 days, or 38 weeks, or 9 months. Fetus- a developing human organism from the start of the ninth week after conception until birth: fetal period = ninth week of pregnancy to birth.
