Personality: pattern, consistent all the time, it is how we adapt to the world, our distinctive thoughts, emotions and behaviors. Definition of psychology: scientific study of behavior and mental processes. The nervous system: the bodies electrochemical communication system. Nerve cell: neurons, information processing nearly all of them are developed before birth. Dendrites: receives information and channels it toward the cell body. Axon: carries information away from the cell body to the next cell, it acts on the next cell. Myelin sheath: layer of fat that encases most axons. What is the central nervous system: brain and spinal cord. What is a neurotransmitter: carries information across the synaptic gap to the next neuron. Theory of cognitive development (piaget): children actively construct their cognitive world. Red means santa, now red doesn"t only mean stop. Familiar with all the different methods of collecting data in a scientific study: Observations (naturalistic, laboratory), surveys and interviews, standardized test, case study.
