Communication: drives employee motivation, manages organizational change, helps with innovativeness. Technology allows us to transmit messages faster and to more people. People need to be able to communicate effectively. People with good writing skills earn more than those with poor writing skills (have greater opportunities for advancement) Exchange of messages between individuals for the purpose of creating or influencings the meaning that others assign to events. Continuous, transactional process involving participants who occupy different but overlapping environments and create relationships through the exchange of messages: affected by external, physiological and psychological noise. Communication is something we do with others. Can be intentional or unintentional: at times, it is intentional, unintentional utterances still carry a message (many nonverbal messages)
