When looking at relatio(cid:374)ships : start with a graph, look for an overall pattern and deviations from the pattern, use numerical descriptions of the data and overall pattern (if appropriate) Scatterplots: most effective way to display the relationship between two quantitative variables is with a scatterplot. If there is an explanatory variable, it is always plotted on the x axis: each point will represent a single case. If there is no explanatory/response relationship, either variable can go on the x axis.
