Conducted at the side in the supine position (patient is lying on their back) Suprapubic: area right above the pubic bone. Ruq: liver, gallbladder, portion of colon, some of the duodenum. Luq: liver, spleen, stomach, portion of the colon. Rlq: appendix, portions of the colon, right ureter, right ovary + fallopian tube, right spermatic cord. Llq: portion of the colon, left ureter, left ovary + fallopian tube, left spermatic cord. Note the appearance of the skin, umbilicus, and contour (scaphoid - concave vs. perturbant - bulging); note any surgical scars, spider telangiectasias. Distention: buildup of abdominal fluid and gas. Constipation, ascites (due to an increase in hydrostatic pressure from cirrhosis) Bs: tinkling sounds produced by peristaltic movement of fluid and air (forward churning of intestinal contents) Patient in supine position, stand to the right of the patient. Place diaphragm of stethoscope just above and to the right/left of the umbilicus. Normal finding: nabs (normal active bowel sounds)
