Even after the tragic end to jonestown and the infinite questions regarding it, experts and scholars still dispute what catagory jim jones falls under. A prophet must meet the following criteria: a revelation and personal charisma (this is their claim to authority), a following, an ecstatic state (healing of the sick, telepathy, etc. His charisma was what gained him such a strong and large following, of which started with elderly women who gave up everything to him. He was able to convince those of his message, which started out as the social gospel that promoted equality as his mission but soon switched to communism or social justice socialism. However, this message began to get muddled as his mental illness and perscription drug abuse took over his life.
