Copd categorized by hyperinflataion and mucus hypersecretion. Damage is not reversible it increases in severity and eventually leads to respiratory failure. Bronchitis is an airway problem and pulmonary emphysema is an alveolar problem. Emphysema: loss of lung elasticity and hyperinflation of lung, dyspnea present, airtraping present due to loss of elastic recoil on alveolar walls, overstretching and enlargement of alveoli and collapse of bronchioles, barrel chest with longterm. Findings of the disease: tripod position sitting, clubbed fingernails, shortness of breath, heart anatomy change, pale, cyanotic, underweight, cough withmucus for prolonged time. Helps to stabilize the chest when they are coughing to lessen the discomfort. Drugs: beta adrengergic side effects- can cause anxiety, hypertension, increased bp, increased hr, insomnia, cholinergic antagonists, methylanthines, corticosteroids, nsaids.
