Document Summary

Sociology is the study of groups and group interactions, societies, and social interactions from groups to large populations. A society is a group of people who live in a define geographical area and interact with one another and share a common culture. Culture refers to the groups shared practices, values, and beliefs. Sociologists often study culture using the sociological imagination which mills describes as an awareness of the relationship between a persons behavior and experience and the wider culture that shaped the persons choices and perceptions. Sociological imagination is a way of seeing our own and other peoples behavior in relationship to history and social structure. Example: an individuals decision to marry (choice is heavily influenced by individuals feelings as well as social acceptability also plays a part) Culture is a product of the people in a society. Reification is an error of treating an abstract concept as though it has a real, material existence.
