Management- promotes stability, order, and problem solving in the existing organizational structure. Good management is essential, but good managers must be leaders. Leadership can"t replace management, there should be a balance of both. Effective leaders possess varied traits and combine these with their strengths. Energy, physical stamina, intelligence, knowledge, judgement- decisiveness, self-confidence, honesty, enthusiasm, desire to lead, independence, sociability, cooperativeness, tact, diplomacy, drive, conscientiousness in pursuit of goals, persistence, tenacity, education, and mobility. Situational theory- leadership is based on the relationship with followers and their readiness level. Low readiness- telling, lots of task behaviors, few relationship behaviors. Moderate-low- selling, clarifying and explain decisions as needed, lots of task and relationship behaviors.
