In class we cooled a helium balloon with liquid nitrogen. The balloon shrank because the pressure inside decreased as the helium particles slowed down. The atmosphere scatters blue light more than red light. On a hot, sunny day, if you want to stay cool it is better to wear. White, because it has a high albedo. Energy radiated by a planet"s surface is trapped by the atmosphere. It is transparent to visible light but absorbs infrared light. Venus because its thick co_2 atmosphere traps heat very effectively. Much less important on the moon than on earth. Two plates sink down, leaving an ocean between them. On earth"s moon, the maria are mostly smooth with only a few craters. Pluto, sputnik planum has no craters at all. Both regions are surrounded by terrain with many craters. The lunar maria and sputnik planum are younger than the terrain around them. Mercury has enormous cliffs, known as scarps, that often cut across craters.
