Arousal- stimulation to action stimulating academic performance: overly aroused leads to anxiety, no arousal/simple tasks lead to poor performance, complex tasks should have a little bit of arousal. Learning (mastery) goals- when you are intrinsically motivated to learn the content: when it is meaningful to you, retention is higher. Performance goals- when you are motivated to look good compared to others: ex. Sports, getting an a on a test low retention, not recommended in classrooms. Social goals- motivated to gain status in the peer group social acceptance: can be bad.
