Spearman is one of the most famous researchers in intelligence (general intelligence-g) Spearman-factor analysis: statistical procedure that identifies clusters of related items on a test; used to identify different dimensions of performance that underlie a person"s total score. Thurstone, his opponent, disagreed with general intelligence and came up with 7 categories that measure intelligence, he didn"t just measure intelligence on a single, general scale. Other people looked into thurstone"s theory and they said that if someone excelled in one of them they usually did well in the others too, giving some truth/basis for general intelligence. General intelligence is comparable to overall general athleticism. Satoshi kanazawa argues that general intelligence evolved as a form of intelligence that helps people solve novel problems (stop a fire from spreading) but more common problems (how to mate or navigation without a map) requires a different intelligence.
