Identification and significance questions: transformationalist thesis (school of thought) You will be asked to describe four (4) of the following concepts and to explain why they are important to our understanding of globalization (10 points each). New, change cannot be denied, meaningful change, state"s role is changing. State shares power with other actors (ngos, multi-national cooperations), super national organizations (eu), non state actors (terrorists), civil societies (religious groups), individuals, international law (un), financial power. A middle ground between skeptics and hyperglobalizers. A transformationalist approach claims that although globalization is changing the role of the state, it"s unclear whether this is leading to increasing state power (skeptics) or decreasing state power (hyperglobalizers). One thing that is clear, however, is that there are now more agents vying for power (states and ngo"s, for example) than there were in previous generations. Also, contrary to the skeptics, there is an intensification of interconnectedness, primarily in regards to culture.
