The study of human behavior in society. Framework that organizes social structure and sets the foundation for individual interaction. Macro levels: analysis of large scale parts of society (economy/political systems) Meso: analysis of a population between macro and micro levels, like a community. Also study of connections between macro and micro levels. Micro levels: analysis of small scale interactions, like social interactions with a small group. Being able to see connections between our own personal interactions and identity and the environment that we grew up in: wright mills: Promoted the idea that social scientists should not just be disinterested observers. Work drew heavily from max weber"s theory that there is a differentiation between various classes, impacts, and powers. Wrote the power elite in 1956 to locate the elite or ruling class. Personal troubles: occur on an individual level. Public issues: go beyond the individual and are collective issues valued to be threatened. Mills: personal troubles and public issues are intertwined.
