Messages and meanings are not the same thing** What something says and what its intended meaning is isn"t always in sync. Messages we can create and meanings we can discern within the context. Whatever interferes with either/both encoding or decoding. The batteries keep dying in the mic (affects encoding b/c the mic is losing the amplification of her voice, affects decoding b/c we can"t hear as well. Your physiological noise can be someone else"s physical noise. The way we see people as similar/diff. to us. Info received/decoded = better when coming from someone closer/ more similar. Decoders receive info that has gone thru attitudes/beliefs/values of others and their own. A dynamic form of communication between two or more people in which the messages exchanged significantly influence their thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and relationships. Effectiveness, appropriateness, ethics, self awareness, self monitoring, adaptability, empathy, cognitive complexity.
