Rousseau: believed mankind as naturally pure and good, believed society caused social problems, specifically private property, social equality- a condition whereby no differences in wealth, powers, prestige, or status based on non-natural conventions exists. Hegel: believed in the master-slave or master-servant dialectic, dialectic- a two-directional relationship, one that goes both ways. Class differentiation is the crucial determinant of social, economic, and political inequality: two classes: ruling and subject class. Equality of opportunity- the idea that everyone has an equal change to achieve wealth, social prestige, and power because the rules of the game, so to speak, are the same for everyone. Equality of condition- the idea that everyone should have an equal starting point.
