Stereotypes, focus on appearance, overemphasis on old as category, internalized ageism. Compassionate ageism- atribute of the same characterisics of frail, poor, dependent, objects of discriminaion and deserving. In non western culture, old people are deserving respect, wise. Populaion of older people alone is growing 2x as fast as the worlds populaion. Un- use indicators of socioeconomic devp: developed, less and least. First, second, third worlds- based on cold war geopoliical order, out of date. Classiicaions of country- more, less and least delveloped and based on per capita income. Sociology- groups, communiies, racial/ethnic/gender/sexuality diferences and ideniies. Psychology- human mind, beliefs, emoions, aitudes, behaviors. Public policy- social programs, laws, medicaid, social security, trans. Humaniies- philosophy, history, theolohy, culture studies, media studies, literature. Cross naional comparaive research- purpose is to discover paterns of similarity and diference in the experiences acorss setings or circumstances.
