Document Summary
Body dysmorphic disorder (bdd) is a mental illness in which a person has symptoms of a medical illness, but the symptoms are not actual symptons that you can see. People with bdd believe they have a defect that others often can"t see. It"s either made up or so minor that no one would even see it! As a result, people with this disorder see themselves as "ugly" and often avoid social exposure to others or turn to plastic surgery to try to improve their appearance. Bdd shares some features with eating disorders and obsessive-compulsive disorder. Bdd is similar to eating disorders in that both involve a concern with body image. American advertising has a huge impact on american culture today. Men portray women as the media reflects them: thin, sexy, large breasts, long legs. Us softly 4, women said how their marriage was affected from their size. One woman said, i"d probably never be married if i hadn"t lost.
