Social interaction: process by which we act toward and react to people around us ex. Social structure: pattern of behavior that governs people"s relationships. Status: position in social hierarchy that comes with a set of expectations. My status is being a student and expectations of this status is taking notes coming to class; being a friend, father, mother. Status set: a collection of social statuses that a person occupies, people act differently in each status. A mother is also a teacher, volunteer, etc. An ascribed status is an inborn status ex. An achieved status is a position that we earn ex. Athlete, occupation, homeless person, drug addict; not always something you want to be. Fatness and obesity are body characteristics, which are both ascribed and achieved for adults. Master status: overrides all others in our identities. Person in wheelchair; people react different because of his disability he could be a father billionaire but people treat him different.
