Anatomy- the study of the structure and shape of the body and its parts (and their relationship to one another) Physiology- the study of how the body and its parts work. Histology- the study of the microscopic anatomy of cells and tissues. 4 main categories of tissues: epithelial tissue, the lining, covering, and glandular tissue of the body, they perform protection, absorption, filtration, and secretion, ex. Skin: connective tissue, protects, supports, and binds together body tissues, ex. Bone and cartilage: muscle tissue, contract or shorten to produce movement, consist of skeletal, cardiac, and smooth muscle, ex. Biceps and triceps: nervous tissue, respond to irritability using conductivity, ex. Tissue classification: stratified- multiple layers of cells in the makeup of a tissue, simple- a single layer of cells in the makeup of a tissue, squaemous- flattened cells, cuboidal- cube shaped cells.
