The good life- people coming to usa are hoping for a better life than what they had before. Social organization- different classes of ppl experiencing sport in different ways. Changing concept of sport & physical education- people realized we are not as fit as we should be so we have a stronger physical education. Gov is established, war is over, many new inventions, a lot of progress. Era of good feeling= growth of sport. Puritan work ethic- all work no play, came in search for religious freedom. Prohibited sporting activities such as sledding, football, dancing, swimming, ninepins, shuffleboard. Boston latin school- first public school in the us. Harvard was the first university in the us. Came to the new world with a strong commercial spirit wealth seekers. Bowling (ninepins), tennis, cricket, horse racing, ice skating. Some colonies prohibited the playing with 9 pins, so they added a 10th pen to bowl legally.
