The nervous system and the endocrine system are the body"s major control and integrating centers. Integrating means interpretation sensory neurons, integrating neurons (tells you to get hand off of hot stove), and motor. Neurology is the study of the normal functioning and disorders of the nervous system neurons. Central nervous system (cns)- brain and spinal cord. Peripheral nervous system (pns)- cranial nerves that emerge from the brain, and spinal nerves that emerge from the spinal cord (everything else) Cranial nerves (and their branches)- just ones that stem off of the brain (i-xii)- the higher the number, the lower in the brain stem, vice versa. Nerve- bundle of axons and associated connective tissue and blood vessels that lies outside the brain and spinal cord. Ganglia- small masses of nervous tissue located outside of the brain and spinal cord. Enteric plexuses- group of nerves that branch off of the spinal cord; network of neurons located in gi tract that help digestion activity.
