HIST 1007 : History Exam 2 BERG
Document Summary
Liberalism was the response to the french and industrial revolutions. Liberals in the 19th century wanted a constitutional monarchy. Liberals wanted to trade and breakaway from dictatorship. At the end of the 19th century the idea of indian nationalism emerged. Congress was held which demanded autonomy and petitioned british parliament. They adopt nationalism in the process and become hindu-based, which caused tension with the muslim population of india. Karl marx devolved the idea of socialism; what mattered was the production of material goods and the ways in which society was organized into classes of producers and exploiters. History moved through stages: from feudalism to capitalism, and then, finally, to socialism. Revolution was necessary, and wealth was to be distributed equally. Otto von bismarck was the ruler of prussia who believed conservatives should unite germany. He does this through war; in 1866 defeats austria and 1871 defeats france. The german empire is united and controlled by prussia in 1871.
