Some industries, like mining, needed technical innovation: investment. 1790"s: cotton gin (eli whitney) accelerated cotton harvesting. Applied to everything: cotton manufacturing, mining, transportation (steamboat in 1807 and first steam railroad in 1825). Napoleon tried to end of britain"s trade with all of europe. By 1815 britain was way ahead of europe in industrial progress (stays ahead until 19th century) Historians believe 1815-1914 to be its own period and is often called the 19th century.
