Tragedy writers had to submit three plays, a trilogy: three to five comedies. Electra: sacrificed daughter of agamemnon, wife of agamemnon that plots to kill agamemnon. Electra gets orestes to kill clytemnestra b/c she killed agamemnon. Orestes pursued by harpies, then athena puts orestes on trial and athena acquits him: importance of justice. Justice becomes an obsession with the greeks because they believe the safety of the city rests on it. Have a son name oedipus under the prophecy. When he was born they brought him to this hill where people brought their unwanted baby, and abandoned their baby. A shepherd picks up oedipus and raises him. Oedipus finds out about prophecy and leaves his foster parents thinking he was the one he would kill. Oedipus grows up and almost gets ran over by a chariot so he tracks down the chariot and kills the driver, his father the king: sphinx.
