Structure- how the poem is written: narrative- telling a story, gradual unfolding of a story, discursive- organized like a treatise, argument, or an essay, descriptive- describing a whole scene using vivid imagery. Irony- a contradictory outcome of events as if in mockery of the promise and fitness of things: dramatic irony- the audience knows the truth, what the character stage. Tone- the poem"s attitude or feelings toward the theme. Iambic pentameter- shakespeare"s meter does not know, he is blind. End-stopped lines- a line or verse which ends with a grammatical break such as a coma, colon, semi-colon, or full stop. Enjambment- carrying over of a sentence from one line to the next. Trochee- a foot that reverses the iambic pattern. Aubade- a literary tradition; a morning song in which the coming of dawn is either celebrated or denounced as a nuisance.
